So, on the 15th of this month I am to do the "Sharing Time" in Primary. This will be my first time ever, so I'm a bit nervous ....
It should be on, "The Priesthood Blesses My Family"
Ok, I have a few ideas ... however, if you have a better idea or a way to get the other Primary kids involved, could you please leave a comment for me ....
These first two ideas, I got off of the internet:
Bring an extension cord to Primary. Show it to the children and ask....
1 - What is this? (An extension cord)
2 - What does it do? (It extends electricity so we can use it when and where we need it.)
Bring any object that requires electricity/power to operate (i.e. a radio/CD player). Tell the children you are really excited to show the children (your object)....[really act excited]. Plug the object into the extension cord [but do not plug the extension cord into the wall]. Try and use your object. Ask WHY it doesn't work. Say, "I thought (your object) would work if I plugged it in."
They'll inform you that in order for it to work it needs to be plugged in to the outlet on the wall. Say, "Ohhhhhh, so this extension cord has to be plugged in as well?"
Relate this example to the priesthood. Discuss some of the following three words/phrases by listing them on the chalkboard. Ask the Primary to define each of these....write the definitions on the board. Talk about each one before moving on to the next one.
priesthood—the power and authority to act for our Heavenly Father
authority—the right to use or give power
laying on of hands—part of the ordinance when a priesthood blessing is given.
Write the following on the chalkboard as shown:
The p___________ can b______ and s__________ my f_______.
Sing the first line of “The Priesthood Is Restored” (p. 89). Have the children listen for a word to complete the first blank in the sentence. When the children guess correctly, write the word priesthood in the first blank. Sing the first two lines of the second verse of “Love Is Spoken Here” (pp. 190–91). Have the children listen for two words that will complete the next two blanks in the sentence. When the children guess the words blessed andstrength, explain that to help the message make sense, you will need to change the words to bless and strengthen.Write them in the blanks.
Sing the first line of “Families Can Be Together Forever” (p. 188). Listen for the word that completes the sentence. Write in the word family, and then read the sentence together.
SUMMARY - Share your testimony of how the priesthood has blessed your family.
OTHER ADDITIONAL IDEAS -
Use the following pictures from the Primary 2 picture packet: 2-20, 2-27, 2-29, 2-30, 2-31, 2-32, 2-33. Give each class a pencil, a piece of paper, and a picture of a priesthood ordinance. Ask them to keep their picture a secret so they can play a guessing game. Ask each class to think of three clues that would help someone guess the priesthood ordinance shown in their picture, and write them on the paper. Invite each class to share their clues, and let the Primary guess what priesthood ordinance they are describing. As each ordinance is discovered, place the picture on the chalkboard. Invite children and teachers to share positive experiences that have blessed their lives or the lives of their family that relate to each priesthood ordinance.

**********
OK, here is my idea :
I want to bring in a "safe". Somehow, I want it to represent the "home." Then, I want to ask a few of the other teachers for their "keys" (maybe even hide them a bit earlier) and have a few volunteer kids go searching for keys. (ya know, to take up time :)
Then when they find the "keys" they can come up and see if the safe will open. Of course it won't. I want to explain to them that the "keys" of the priesthood can't be just any "keys" to unlock the gifts from Heavenly Father. That they have to be given to us by someone who has the authority to.
Maybe the Bishop could be sitting in (or someone from the bishopric or any man with the priesthood) and come and "give" the "keys" to one of the children and see if that will unlock the safe.
Somehow ... tying in that
* the priesthood can bless your home and make it a "safe" place
* there are many keys to the priesthood, but only certain people can give you those keys, you can't just get them anywhere
I don't know ... just an idea ....
PLEASE HELP. I'm SCARED!
Oh Ria! That is a great idea you have with the Safe! I would definitely do that....and I might use it some day in the future too! I would maybe make a few paper keys that have words on them that represent the Priesthood, or ways the priesthood can bless our lives. So, when it's open, you can talk more about it. I would definitely ask a member of your bishopric to come in and be the one to open the safe. I think the kids would enjoy that. Explain to the children that it is through the gospel that we have these keys. (Because once, a long time ago, we didn't have all the keys....during the apostasy.)
ReplyDeleteGood work woman! I am muy impressed!
