Finding Joy in the Simple Things .....

So, last night David and Ayla had a daddy/daughter date (d.d.d.).  We have been needing to do some serious grocery shopping around here - so I decided once they left, I would take Braxton with me to Macey's (my favorite grocery store, EVER!) and we would get some shopping done.

Okay, who knew that grocery shopping could be so enjoyable?!  Seriously...  I had my little list and I'd put a few items in the cart when Braxton said "can I help with the list?"  I don't know WHY I was hesitant to have him help -- but I was for some reason.

So, after a few times of him asking ever so sweeeeeetly, I thought to myself, "Just let him hold the list, Maria!!!"  I handed him the list and he says, "Okay (then smacks his lips, he does this when he is in 'serious' mode) we now need some sour cream..."

IT WAS SO ADORABLE!  He was my little helper :)  He would tell me what was on the list and then we would go find it and he would then CROSS IT OFF.  I believe that was his favorite part.

I don't know if any of you guys do this, but instead of  writing "cream of chicken soup" I just write "cream or cr. 'o chick".  If I also need mushroom soup, I'll then write "mush" next to that .... so, Braxton says, "next we need 'cream 'o chick'."  I said, "oh, that's cream of chicken soup ..." He then says, "it doesn't say cream of chicken soup it says cream 'o chick.  We better get cream 'o chick or we'll get the wrong thing."

A few others cut things he said on our list were:
*"burning soda" instead of "baking soda" - I scribbled that on there quickly!
*"sal-mon" instead of salmon ---
*"tomato pesto" instead of "tomato paste"
*I had written cream cheese, "cr. cheese"  Again, "mom we now need crrr cheese."  "oh, that means cream cheese"  "Mom, you didn't spell cream right!"

However, he did get "fettuccini" right!

It was a really fun night spending it with him - and I actually want to do all of my grocery shopping with my right hand man :)

AND ... of course, we topped it off with a butterfinger candybar for being such a great helper!

I guess I just realized last night that it was actually fun doing an unfun thing.  Spending quality time with your kids ---  that can be doing pretty much anything.

Even grocery shopping :)
