Conference Weekend

This weekend I was going to start off with a "bang."  An easter egg hunt at our local Dan's foodstore.  Well, for future reference -- if the easter egg hunt starts at 9:00am and you get there at 9:02.  It's OVER!  Yep.  I almost started bawling because Brax was SO excited and then we got there and I felt like crap-oh-la!

However, he was able to get his face painted AND get a pic taken with the creepy easter bunny!  Yay!

I told Braxton that we were going to have an even better easter egg hunt at our house because I would by the easter candy and I know eggs-actly what kind of candy he likes :)  He seemed pretty happy with that.

Then it was back home to listen to conference.

(Saturday Sessions)
I printed off a kids conference packet off of sugardoodle.net and had that ready for him.  It was really cute and helped him listen a bit.  The papers had each apostles name ... then a place to draw their faces and color in what their ties looked like.   It was fun.  I also set up his "reverence tent" while we were watching so that when we were in there, we knew to be quiet.  He thought it was great!

I love this pic ... so here is a closeup.

I absolutely LOVE conference weekend.  I started falling in love with it when I actually started paying attention to what the speakers had to say :)  Amazing, eh?

It was probably around the time I was Ayla's age.

My dearest adopted older bro, known as Ernie, would be ever so diligent and take me to temple square to listen.  I remember the first time that we went -- we didn't dress up in our church clothes and we both felt really silly.  It only took us that one time to realize we wouldn't do that again.

I pretty much went one of the two days of conference with him down to temple square until I got married.  So from around the age of 12 - 19.  That would be ... about 16 times, I guess.  Wow.

I still have my little notebook full of all the notes that I took when I was listening.  It's pretty awesome.

I also fell in love with Temple Square, too.  Really, there is no other place I would rather be.  I love the feeling I get when I'm there.

(Sunday Sessions)
I wasn't quite sure whether we would be able to make it to temple square or not because Saturday was so snowy and yucky.

However, Sunday morning was gorgeous and beautiful!!!

I like to make monkey bread for "intermission" on Sunday and have a big brunch.  But, now I was trying to fit in the brunch and getting to Temple Square on time --- it was a little bit much.  But, we made it.

We sat out on the lawn by the Nauvoo Bell.  Braxton did really well listening again.  And when one of the speakers wasn't an apostle, he would play with his transfomers.  Really, it was perfect weather.  Not too cold - Not too hot, either.

Not such a great pic of me ... but a good one of my tummy.  27 weeks and 5 days.

So, it just so happened, my bro Ernie was there with his cousin, Julie.  So, they swung by after the afternoon session and said hi.

Ernie with his cousin, Julie.  If any of you have seen the "Reflections of Christ" pictures from deseret book.  Her sister is the one who portrays "Mary" in the manger scenes.  They are both drop-dead gorgeous!

It's so funny to me that I met Ernie when I was 8 (three years older than Brax) and now here he is playing with my son, too.  Brings back great memories.

Showing us their muscles!  Boo-yah!

Ernie said, "high-five"
Braxton said, "no, high-five and high-foot!"

I am fully aware of my bunny teeth.  Dunno what is up with them.  But, oh well!

The End

I think next year we will plan it a little differently.  Whatever day we plan on going to Temple Square, we will do the BIG brunch on the other day so we don't feel quite so rushed.

GOOD TIMES!

I can't believe it but next G.C. our little guy is going to be here with us!  Holy Cow!

....... Oh yeah, almost forgot!  David and I finally have a name for the wee one.  But, I'm not ready to share it with the whole world just yet.  But, I am one very, VERY happy Momma!

  1. Oh my GOODNESS, GC was amazing! I love it so, so much! So many things I needed to hear! And I always feel so GREAT about myself afterward; I realize I've got much to work on, but DANG, the brethren remind me that God loves me. Love it, love it!

Also...yeah, that's prolly one of the creepiest Easter Bunnies I've ever seen. Kids actually approached it with a smile?! Cuh-razy!

  2. Thanks, Maria, those are sweet memorys! Thanks for the new ones too. You will always be my Little Bird...even though you've grown into something so much more. There is much to "prophet" by at Temple Square, isn't there? ;-) ...It became a tradition for little Julie and I too and that's why we were there...even though she's not so little anymore either. Cool, huh? Love you and yours!
