A few reasons to make me smile :)

So, despite my eternal mood swings -- (it seems I'm always complaining, I know.  I do apologize.)

I want all of you to know there are things that do make me happy, too.

I decided that it was high time I did a happy post!  So here I go.  Prepare yourself :)

I know a lot of you are sick of hearing my "888" stories.  But, I love them!

For those of you who have not been following, David and I were married 08/08/08.  And we've had a lot of triple 8 experiences since then.

Well, when David and I found our townhome that we just moved into we fell in love with it immediately.  It really was "perfect" for our needs!  As we got in the car the night we went to look at it, we looked at each other and smiled.  We both knew ... this was where we were supposed to move!  As he backed up, I said aloud, "OMIGOSH!  Look at the house number!"

Yep, there was the "888" again. :)  Whenever I see this number on our house, I have to smile and think of David.  LOVE IT!

The other morning I woke up and started going around the house opening the blinds and curtains to get in the natural light. (I hate being in the dark ... or even fake lighting if I can help it.  It seriously gets me depressed easy ...)

When I went back to the sliding door and slid the curtains aside, this is what I saw.

Now, tell me, that just wouldn't make your day...

Around the middle of April I decided since our new yard actually has a garden area -- I would take a stab at gardening.  Now understand, my Grandmother Whiting, was an EXCELLENT gardener.  But, somehow, that did NOT get past down to my mother.  (No offense, Ma!) In her defense though, she really didn't have time to garden!!!

So, since my mom didn't garden, I didn't garden.  The only time I gardened was when I'd go visit my grandma, which wasn't all too often.  And half the time -- when she'd send me out to pick the weeds, I would realize 15 minutes into it (when I'd talk to my sister Malinda) I wasn't picking JUST the weeds!  OOOOPS!

I knew I would just shoot for something small this year.  Heck, with a new marriage, new family, new baby ... why not throw in something else "new" as well.

Braxton  and I went out there and planted a few seeds -- It was so much fun and Braxton had a blast helping me.  However, I wasn't too hopeful.

WELL, Ayla came home from school last week and was outside.  She came in and said, "Maria, did you know your garden is growing?"  I looked at her and said, "It's probably just weeds."  She was like, "well, if it is, they are all in a perfect row!"  My eyes got big and I shot outta there to run out to my garden.

Turns out ... SHE WAS RIGHT! My garden is growing.  And for all of you people with green thumbs out there -- don't laugh.  I know it isn't what normal gardens look like, but I'm so happy.  This means, I can grow stuff!!!  Yay.

My row of lettuce ^

^ and this would be zuchinni

my favorite ^ garden fresh tomatoes!

^one of the rows of corn.  Mmmmmmmm.

There are even Watermelon and Strawberries out there, too.  But they are just barely breaking through the ground :)  yay.  I've always wanted to garden.

However, I saved my BEST story for last!  It probably is NOT surprising that it involves my little man, Mr. Braxton!

Yesterday I had to go down to Kaysville to drop Brax off to his daddy.  Before it was time to do that, I met up with my mom and my sister, Deb.  I wanted to run into the mall and get a present for my step-dad, Greg.  You see, I will be out of town on his birthday.

So, we go to the mall AND Braxton tells me he wants to go play in the kids area at Deseret Book.  I walk him back there and he asks me to stay with him.  I said, "sweetie, I have to find a present for Grandpa -- but you can stay here and I'll be back."  He said, "you promise you won't forget me?"  I was like, "Brax, I could NEVER forget you!"  He was like, "okay.  Come check on me though, ok Mom?"  I said, "ok."

I would guess that about 10 minutes passed and I decided I should go check on him.  So, I did.  He was at the chalkboard writing his name and his ABC's, too!  It was so adorable.  I had forgotten to grab my camera and so I snapped a photo with my phone.  I asked him if he was ok and told him it would be just a few more minutes.

Well, finally it was time to go -- As my mom was at the cash register, Deb decided she wanted to buy a book.  So I waited in line with her again.  Mom and Brax started to head to "Pretzelmaker" because it takes a while for them to get there.  (Braxton is never in a rush and it just takes my mom longer with her bad leg.)

K, this is where I will start to tear up!

As we were standing there checking out -- An older lady from the back came up to the counter and looked at my sister Deb and said, "was that your little boy back there?"  (I like to pretend that she didn't ask me, because I look to young to have a 5 year old!  Ha! ;)

Debbie turned and pointed to me, I smiled, and she said, "um, nope, that would have been her little boy..."

She came over closer to me and in the most genuine, sincere voice said, "That little boy, was the most polite, kind, considerate child I've seen!"  she continued, "he was so sweet to the other little children, was sharing and helping them with their toys, would help pick up after them when they left, cleaned up after himself, tucked all the chairs back under the table ... and there was NO ONE telling him to do those things.  You don't see that anymore."

I smiled and said, "Well, thank you. He is a good little boy and with Mother's Day coming up, hearing that just makes it even better!"

OH I LOVE HIM!!!!

Seriously, people!  I know all parents feel this way about their children.  But, you cannot beat that feeling!!!  Knowing that your child is behaving well even when there is no one around telling him to do those things was THE BEST feeling in the world!

This pic was taken last weekend when he and I went on our Mommy/Son date!  :)  I'm so grateful to be HIS mom!
