Braxton started having a fever and throwing up yesterday (March 18th) morning around 3am. He hadn't kept ANYTHING down all day. He wasn't hungry, which I'm ok with, but he couldn't even keep down water or ice chunks. Not gatorade, not juice, not pedialyte ... nothing!
Also, Brax has a really awesome bladder. He is amazing that way. However, the last time he went pee was right after what should have been snack time yesterday. So that was around 3pm. When it was time for bed last night, he couldn't go because there was nothing there.
So, again, like I said, it was 2pm. I realized ... um, my son hasn't been to the bathroom in almost 24 hours! I knew he was getting de-hydrated. It didn't help when my mom told me that my niece, who is 13, was so dehydrated over the weekend that she had to be hospitalized.
Yeah ... I think it would take a lot less for a 5 year old to get dehydrated, so off to the doctor's we went.
When the doc came in, he asked what was going on. We told him. He said "Man, I don' t know what this is, but it is going around like crazy." He checked Braxton and said ... "It's a good thing you brought him in today. Had you waited about another 8 hours, he would have been so dehydrated that you would need to go to the hospital to get him rehydrated with an IV.
HOLY CRAP! All of Braxton's membranes in his mouth were sticky instead of watery ... and Braxton was pale, pale, pale. :(
They gave him a shot in his bum, bum to stop the vomiting. It's the same shot they give pregnant women when they can't stop puking. She warned me it would sting. Braxton cried for about ... 30 seconds after. And then ... he was good. He was so weak though. A few times walking to the doctor and back out to the car, his little legs kind of gave way .... I wanted to carry him SO bad! But, it hurts my tummy too much now.
Needless to say ... I'm grateful we took him in today. He has been on medicine now for ... about 6 hours. He's had about 12 crackers and about 10 oz of gatorade and he has kept it down. :) yay!
Plus, he just went potty :) So ... 30 hours later ... he urinates. Good news!
Wish us luck ... we'll be moving most of the big stuff Saturday. Man, I want this month over with. I've had it. I'm pooped!
YIKES! I'm so glad you ran him to the doctor when you did! Sounds like the poor kid has been through a lot! ICK!
